The Lawyers' Technology Fair hosted the presentation of the Report "Future Lawyering 2020: emerging business areas", which gathers the technological trends and the latest advances that are undoubtedly the great niche market of the Law of the future, and identifies the needs of these realities, as well as how to anticipate them, can be key to the future of the profession.

For this reason, the General Council of Lawyers commissioned the consulting firm BRAINTRUST to carry out an analysis of the impact of these on legal services, which was presented at this XII Congress by the Dean of the Salamanca Bar Association, Eduardo Íscar, who was in charge of coordinating the report, and José Luis Ruiz, Partner and Director of Innovation at BRAINTRUST. Both were presented by Cristina Sancho, Director of Corporate Communications, Branding and CSR at Wolters Kluwer.

Íscar pointed out that the project responds to the interest of the legal profession in the irruption of technologies and their impact on the profession, something that is reflected in the Strategic Plan 2020. The Salamanca dean pointed out that "we wanted the Congress to talk intensely about technology and for it to be documented so that it would be dealt with in a particular way, not in general", since "there is no single recipe" to apply it.

The reports, he explained, "want to open up a field of opportunities that can be applied to offices," he said.

In this line, José Luis Ruiz indicated that "the reports have been created for reflection" and for this reason, before starting the project, "threats and opportunities were detected", to later analyze more than 50 entities and more than 1,000 article references.

Subsequently, six major areas of innovation were identified:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Blockchain
  • 3D Printing
  • Connected objects
  • Medical innovations
  • Virtual and augmented reality

... which are analyzed in the report by sector.
