The typical health insurance policyholder is 45 years old, part of a family with children consisting of between two and four people, and the household has an average income of €37,000 per year.
All health insurance policyholders make frequent use of their insurance, with an average usage of once every two months.
BRAINTRUST, as part of its Second Competition Observatory in the health insurance sector, has analyzed the profile of policyholders of this type of insurance, taking into account the following sociodemographic variables: age, number of household members, family model, income, and academic background.
The first of the indicators studied, age, reveals that 63% of policyholders are between 25 and 54 years old. The second parameter examined in terms of the profile of the policyholder and the characteristics of their claims is the number of members in households; analysis shows that most insured households are composed of 2 to 4 people.
BRAINTRUST has delved deeper into this II Observatory in the policyholder's family unit model, noting in its study that families with children, 65% of the total, are the most common family unit among policyholders, a proportion well above that of households made up of couples without children, which account for 22%. It also reveals that only 24% of all households have at least one member with health insurance; of these, 80% have two or more insured members, most of whom (74%) are insured by the same company. The annual income This was another criterion analyzed when estimating the insurance take-up rate, revealing that the average annual household income is €37,000.
Another sociodemographic parameter evaluated in this II BRAINTRUST Competitiveness Observatory in the health insurance sector was academic background of the policyholder. This data provides very insightful information, as 54% of health insurance policyholders have a higher university education.
64% of policyholders say that the last time they used their insurance was less than three months ago. Specifically, when asked about how often they use their private health insurance, it was found that they use it 5.89 times a year, or approximately once every two months.
Finally, in this second study, BRAINTRUST analyzed the profile of the uninsured. The data is revealing: 65% do not have private health insurance and have never had it, 27% have had insurance at some point, and 8% have had it in the last year. The consulting firm, which specializes in competitive intelligence and customer experience, points out that these last two percentages, those who had health insurance last year or at some point, may represent an interesting potential niche for customer recovery. Companies should assess and reflect on the reasons why these users left, not only to win them back but also to improve the loyalty and retention of current customers.
